30 cubic yards
30 Yard Dumpster Rental in Saginaw, MI
A volume container, not a heavier one. The extra eighteen inches of wall is for bulk, and dense material has no business in it.

The 30 yard container in Saginaw County, MI
A 30 yard roll-off is about 22 feet long, 7.5 feet wide and 6 feet high. The footprint is the same as a 20 yard; everything you gain is height. That single fact decides what the container is for. Extra height is useful only while the material going into it is light enough that you were running out of room rather than running out of weight.
So the 30 yard is the right call for multi-room work, a full estate clearance, cabinetry and furniture, insulation, packaging, siding, and the mixed bulky debris of a renovation that has touched the whole floor of a building. It is the wrong call the moment the load turns dense. Put masonry or a tear-off in a container this tall and you will stop loading at knee height, having paid for six feet of wall you cannot use and made the pitch-in harder for no gain.
The other thing height changes is placement. A taller box is heavier empty, sits higher on the roll, and needs a longer straight approach and more overhead room than most people picture. On older streets with no off-street parking, that is sometimes the limiting factor rather than the material.
Roofing does not go in a 30 yard
This is worth stating plainly rather than leaving in a footnote. An asphalt shingle tear-off does not belong in a 30 yard container and it does not belong in a 40 either. Shingle is dense enough that a loaded box reaches the weight at which it can lawfully be lifted and driven while the material is still well down inside the walls. Every additional foot of container height on a roofing job is empty steel you have to lift debris over.
The intuition that a bigger box is the safer choice comes from household clearances, where it is often true. It inverts completely on dense material. If a tear-off is the job, the conversation is about roof area and how many layers are coming off, and the answer lands on a 10, a 15 or a 20 depending on those two numbers. Nobody is being upsold by being sent to a smaller container; it is simply the box that works.
Ground, weather and plywood
Saginaw County sits on the flat lake plain of a former glacial lake, and the soils here include a good deal of heavy clay. What that means in practice is simple and has nothing to do with engineering tables. Firm, dry ground carries a loaded container without complaint. Ground that has been softened by a wet week, or that is moving through freeze and thaw, does not, and a 30 yard is among the heaviest things that will ever stand on a residential driveway.
Plywood is the simple answer: sheets under the wheels and under both rails spread the load and take the point pressure off asphalt and off pavers. Put them down before delivery rather than after. And to be clear about what we are not doing, we are not qualified to assess the ground at any address, including yours. We will not tell you your driveway will be fine. If you have a concern about a surface, that is a question for somebody who can look at it.
Access is usually the real constraint
A 30 yard needs the length of the box plus the room the truck needs to tilt it off and hook it back on, enough width alongside for the truck itself, and a genuinely clear overhead where the hoist arm works. We do not publish a measured figure for any of that, because the only run that decides anything is the one at your address. The arm goes up a long way before the container comes down, which is why a branch that clears the roof of your car is not necessarily clearing anything useful.
The approach matters as much as the space. A container has to be rolled off in a straight line, so a driveway that turns sharply at the sidewalk, or sits behind a narrow gate, is harder than a long one with an awkward end. Soft verges, decorative borders and irrigation heads along the edge of a drive are the things most often damaged, because they are at exactly the height a wheel reaches. Tell us about the approach on the phone and we will tell you honestly if the 30 is practical there or if you are better off with two smaller loads.
Capacity
What actually fits in a 30 yard container
Working figures rather than specifications. On a dense load it is the weight the loaded truck can lawfully carry on a public road that ends the job, not the top rail.
| Material | How much fits |
|---|---|
| Estate clearance | A full house emptied room by room, furniture, wardrobes and boxed contents together. |
| Bulky light debris | Cabinetry, insulation, packaging and old furniture, which run out of room before they run out of weight. |
| Multi-room renovation | Partition walls, trim, doors, fittings and carpet from a whole floor. |
| Roof tear-off | None of it. Shingle reaches lawful payload far below the top rail of a box this tall. |
Suitability
Where the 30 yard fits, and where it does not
Choose the 30 yard for
- A full estate clearance where the house is being emptied completely
- A renovation touching several rooms at once, fittings and partitions included
- Stripping out cabinetry, closets and built-in furniture across a whole floor
- Bulky light debris such as insulation, packaging, siding and underlay
Pick a different size for
- Any roof tear-off, which reaches a lawful lifting weight long before it fills a container this tall
- Concrete, block, tile, soil, sand or gravel, all of which belong in a 10 yard filled part way
- A driveway with a short approach, a tight apron or low wires, where the height and length work against you
Setting a 30 yard container down in Saginaw County
A 30 yard is often an estate clearance container, and in Saginaw County that job frequently crosses a jurisdictional line without anyone noticing. A house whose mail reads Saginaw, MI 48601 may sit inside the City of Saginaw or in a township, because the postal city and the government are two different things. It matters here, because the material that comes out of an estate clearance is exactly what City Code § 50.06 lists as not collected, and that ordinance only reaches the City.
For the sixteen other communities on this site we established county, government type, 2020 population and straight-line distance, and nothing further. No container rule, no collection program, no fee. We could not find one, which is not the same as saying there is none, and we are not going to fill the gap with something that sounds right. Call the township or village office for your address, or start at the Mid Michigan Waste Authority, which this area's communities belong to.
Compare
Every size side by side
The dimensions are external measurements of the box and they are approximate: manufacturers build to slightly different sizes, and the three figures deliberately do not multiply out to the yardage in the name. The yardage is the trade name for the size rather than a computed internal volume, so compare the boxes on it and then tell us what is going in.
| Size | Dimensions | Capacity | What fills it first | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 Yard Dumpster | about 14 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 3.5 ft high | about 50-70 kitchen-size trash bags | Weight, with the box still half empty | Concrete, block, tile, dirt and roof tear-off. |
| 15 Yard Dumpster | about 16 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 4.5 ft high | about 80-100 kitchen-size trash bags | Usually weight, on a mixed load | Garage clearing, flooring tear-out and one heavy room. |
| 20 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 4.5 ft high | about 110-130 kitchen-size trash bags | Either, depending what goes in | Most remodels, and a house being emptied room by room. |
| 30 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 6 ft high | about 170-190 kitchen-size trash bags | Volume, on bulky light material | Multi-room work and a full estate clearance. |
| 40 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 8 ft high | about 230-250 kitchen-size trash bags | Volume, almost always | New construction and bulky demolition waste. |

Say what the material is rather than how many rooms it came out of, and name the community the address is in. Answers
30 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
When is a 30 yard the right size rather than a 20?
When the load is bulky and light and you were running out of room, not weight. An estate clearance, a strip-out of cabinetry and closets across a whole floor, or a renovation producing insulation and packaging will all fill a 20 and want more height. If any significant part of the load is dense, stay with the 20 or go smaller.
Why can a roof tear-off not go in a 30 yard?
Because shingle reaches the weight at which a loaded container can lawfully be lifted while the material is still well down inside the box. The extra height buys nothing and you end up pitching debris over a six foot wall for no reason. A tear-off belongs in a 10, 15 or 20 depending on the roof area and the number of layers coming off.
What access does a 30 yard need that a 20 does not?
Mostly width and overhead rather than length, since the footprint is the same. Allow for the truck's own width alongside the box and keep the space above the drop genuinely clear, because the hoist arm rises well above the finished height of the container. A sharp turn at the sidewalk is the obstacle that stops this size most often.
Service area
30 Yard Dumpster delivered across Saginaw County
We run containers out of 3102 Sawyer Dr to seventeen communities in Saginaw County. They are grouped below by what kind of government each one actually is, because in Michigan that is the difference between a city hall, a township board and a village that sits inside a township — and it decides who you have to call about your own address. If yours is not listed, call anyway; we most likely still get there.
The city
The only jurisdiction in this list whose refuse rules we were able to read and quote.
Townships
A township board, not a city hall. We could not establish container or refuse rules for any of these, and we do not publish ones we could not read.

Two cities and two villages. A village sits inside its township, so a village address has two governments over it at once.
